Our Community on International Women’s Day

Most of us are familiar with International Women’s Day – we see bold, insightful messaging across social media, television, broadcast and everywhere else in between on March 8 each year.

It’s fascinating to see how different individuals, organizations and movements respond to this international celebration. The day resonates with so many but, we found ourselves curious about what it truly means to friends of Ladies Learning Code Halifax!

Ladies Learning Code Halifax decided to celebrate International Women’s Day by asking our community of smart, talented and inspiring folks to share stories, experiences, opinions or a simple comment related to International Women’s Day on our chapter Facebook page.

Keep reading for some seriously inspirational International Women’s Day reflections!

“I am surrounded by so many smart, inspiring and powerful women. They support me each and everyday and I feel proud and extremely lucky to know them.” – Lauren Bell

“I feel blessed to know and be supported by an unbelievable network of smart and ambitious women. For me, IWD is a great reminder to stay hungry for change, grateful for my people and thankful for how far we’ve come.” – Eilidh Lindsay-Sinclair

“My mother raised me to respect women and now I have the privilege of living with a kind and passionate woman who makes me stronger and more compassionate. I’m blessed with many amazing girl friends who work hard, play hard, and are kicking ass out here. Today reminds me that it’s easy to go backwards and we have a lot more to do for our sisters.” – Michael Flemming

Pretty powerful stuff, if you ask us! We had the chance to again hear how our learners felt about International Women’s Day and the work our chapter is doing when CBC News stopped by our workshop today (we’ll be sure to include a link to the segment here, ASAP…stay tuned!) to interview our instructor, chapter team, mentors and learners.

With all of this in mind, we want to say HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY to all the lady-identifying folks out there! Especially the ones in our happy Halifax community/family that make Ladies Learning Code Halifax possible. Plus, we want too send a huge thank you out to all of the wonderful males who support us. You rock!

And now,  we turn the focus to you…what does International Women’s Day mean in your world? Leave us a note to let us know.

Cheers, ladies!
